Point Census
Since 2017 all tables in the PMTIO Annual Reports are compiled using November 1st point census data, and include only those trainees enrolled and participating in a training program on November 1st of the report year. Trainees on any kind of leave (e.g. maternity or parental leave, sick leave, leave of absence, etc.) on November 1st are excluded from the count.
CAPER (Canadian Post-MD Education Registry) and OPRC use the same November 1st census date for their annual reports, but there are differences in how it is applied. More details on the difference between CAPER and OPRC inclusion criteria can be found on CAPER vs OPRC Inclusion Criteria.
Full-Time Equivalent
Prior to 2017, tables in Part 2 of the PMTIO Annual Reports were assembled using data from registrations for the entire academic year (July 1st to June 30th of the given year). Part 2 tables were referred to as Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) tables.
All time spent in a training program has been recorded as the appropriate fraction of FTE training. This is based on both actual and anticipated data, as the data gathered for the November 1st census is used to account for activity through June 30th. As a result of this process, a trainee on leave from October 1st to December 31st would not be counted in the November 1st census, but would have been counted as 0.75 FTE in the Full Time Equivalent counts.
